More MS Symptoms You Should Know

The Door To Scientific Research

Indentifying MS symptoms is highly important as it enables you to start treatment as early as possible. Then it's like most diseases more effectively treatable.

Although you already know the most significant MS symptoms, I would like to complete the list with all the common ones that we know in the meantime thanks to scientific research.

This opens us the door to talk about many of the other results that were discovered by scientific research.

But now let's have a look at more MS signs.

Multiple sclerosis is a very variable condition and the manifestations depend on which areas of the central nervous system have been affected. There is no set pattern to MS and everyone with MS has a different set of symptoms, which vary from time to time and can change in severity and duration, even in the same person.

MS is in contrast to most diseases untypical. This means that people will experience more than one sign, but they differ from person to person. Something I can say for sure, no person will ever have all signs of MS but only few of the long list. You know already the most common and significant manifestations of MS (underlined) but I mention them again to give you an entire overview

Visual limitations

  • double vision

  • blurring of vision

  • optic neuritis

  • involuntary rapid eye movement

  • total loss of sight - very rare

Balance and coordination

  • insecure, unstable walking

  • vertigo / giddiness

  • loss of balance

  • tremor

  • clumsiness of a limb

  • lack of coordination

  • muscle weakness - affects the legs and influences walking

Fatigue

  • lack of stamina - while walking

  • An unpredictable general fatigue independent of the activity. Fatigue is a common and a quite troubling problem of MS.

Altered sensations

  • paresthesia

  • numbness

  • pins and needles

  • tingling

  • burning sensations

Spasticity

  • altered muscle tone and muscle stiffness can affect mobility and walking

  • spasms

Pain

  • muscle pains

  • facial pain (such as trigeminal neuralgia)

  • stabbing sharp pains

  • burning tingling pain

Abnormal speech

  • slowing of speech

  • inarticulate pronunciation

  • changes in rhythm of speech

  • difficulty in swallowing (dysphasia)

Bladder & bowel problems

  • Bladder problems include the need to pass water frequently and / or urgently, emptying it incomplete or at inappropriate times

  • Bowel problems include constipation and, infrequently, loss of bowel control.

Sexuality & intimacy

  • impotence

  • diminished arousal

  • loss of sensation

Sensitivity to high temperature

  • this can cause a temporary worsening of MS symptoms

Cognitive & emotional disturbances

  • loss of short term memory

  • loss of concentration, judgment or reasoning

If you should have several of these symptoms of multiple sclerosis and your doctor should dismiss them as normal you should insist on clarification whether or not it could be MS.

If he still refuses cooperating, you might consider looking for another physician who takes your concerns serious.

Some of these manifestations, the most common ones are quite obvious, whereas others such as fatigue, altered sensation, memory and concentration problems are seldom seen as MS symptoms, at least not in the beginning.
